Earth Day was a beautiful day here in Kentville. The kind of day you want to grab a lawn chair and sit out in the sunshine meeting up with interesting people and talking about deep things. So that’s what we did at the HUB Kentville.
We hosted our first “Say Goodbye to your out-dated electronics” drop off. We sat in the sun, sipped on coffee, munched on treats and learned about energy efficiency, proper recycling and disposal programs. It was the perfect day to take care of those piles taking up space in your office.
We learned that Efficiency NS has some amazing programs that are funded by NSPower profits through measured energy savings. http://www.efficiencyns.ca/ Check them out.
We learned that there is no more mining for mercury anywhere in the world. If we need it, and we do, it will come from recycled sources. Recycling isn’t just important for the environment, it is necessary so we can reuse it. http://www.efficiencyns.ca/energy-solutions/mercury-collection/ Kent in New Minas has a mercury drop off for CFL bulbs Saturdays and Sundays 10-3 until May 15. Valley Waste takes them as well.
If you missed us, remember you can take your electronics to Innovative Systems in New Minas. https://innovativecanada.ca/
You can contact RE http://reusedresale.com/index.html about gently used furniture and other equipment suitable for resale.
NKEC Band joined us for the morning to help out with pickups and deliveries.
Nathanson Seaman Watts took the prize for biggest contribution to our pile. They cleaned out and the NKEC band raised money for their trip.
And a big thank you to our partners, Innovative Systems, Efficiency NS, NKEC Band, RE and the Town of Kentville.
